Mrs. Wallace is choosing a wallpaper
border. She sees several patterns. The first pattern looks like
this:
She notices that the shapes on the border are the same size, the
same shape, and face in the same direction. These shapes are called
slides. It’s as if each consecutive shape has “slid”
over from the original shape.
Slides are figures that are identical to, and
face in the same direction as, the original figure.
Mrs. Wallace also sees another pattern:
Each shape is different from the one next to it. These shapes are
not slides.
Mrs. Wallace decides to buy the first wallpaper border. She thinks
the “slide” pattern will look lovely in her home.
